“From despair to miracle”. A touching story about the power of sincere desiresIn the happy expectation of motherhood, Svitlana suffered a great grief. She was unable to carry her daughter, and doctors made a terrible diagnosis – Svetlana would not be able to get pregnant again. She was so desperate that for several months the young woman did not want to go out at all. She was pulled out of her severe depression after a long conversation with her husband, who tearfully begged Svitlana to go on with her life for the sake of their marriage. Little by little, life in the family was getting better, but one piece of news brought Svitlana back to painful memories. Her sister Iryna hesitated for a long time to tell her the news of her pregnancy. The sister understood the ordeal her loved one had gone through, so she didn’t want to open the wound. Svitlana was happy for Iryna and did her best to help her. She drove her to doctor’s appointments and took up the task of renovating the children’s room in her sister’s house for her future niece. Svitlana’s pain did not go away, but she sincerely wanted her sister to enjoy her pregnancy and not worry about unnecessary worries. When her niece Anya was born, Svitlana was asked to become her godmother. The young woman agreed, helping the new parents to cope with new responsibilities. The godmother also helped to enroll Anya in a good kindergarten, and when the girl was about to enter first grade, Svitlana took care of some of the school preparations. One day in a store, Anya was trying on a dress and the saleswoman noticed: – “It looks great on you, you look as beautiful as your mother in this dress. While her goddaughter was trying on another skirt, Svitlana burst into tears. “All this time has passed, but the pain has not subsided. Two girls could be running around here right now – her goddaughter and daughter… Anya looked out of the fitting room and saw her goddaughter wiping away her tears: – “What happened?” the girl asked, frightened. – “Everything is fine, Anya. I was just thinking how nice it would be if I had a daughter as sweet as you. – It would be great, so maybe you’ll give birth? – Oh, I wish I could, but the doctors can’t cure me. For a few minutes, Anya’s sad eyes were downcast, and then she looked up at her godmother with a radiant look: – “I know who can help you! “I’m going to ask St. Nicholas, who is supposed to grant any wish in a few months. I will write him a letter and ask him to give you a little baby. A girl with blond curly hair, and curly hair must be curly, okay? – I agree,” Svitlana said with a sigh, fixing the unruly ponytail on her goddaughter’s blond head. Almost six months had passed since that conversation. Svitlana was worried about her health, maybe it was fatigue, but what if she had a serious illness? She made an appointment with a doctor, but she never expected to hear such news from him. For all these years, Svitlana had thought it was unrealistic, so she never thought to explain her symptoms as pregnancy. That night, Svitlana also dreamt of a little girl with a curly head who was stretching her arms toward her. The dream only made the young woman cry bitterly, and now this news seems to have put everything in its place. There was only one stop from the hospital to Anya’s school. Svetlana decided to walk, having called her sister and told her that she could pick up her goddaughter from school today. When Anya ran out after school to meet her goddaughter, Svetlana hugged the girl tightly. – “Wow, your hug is so strong today,” the goddaughter said, laughing. – “Just like my love for you. Do you know how powerful your wishes are, Anya? The goddaughter looked at Svitlana in confusion at first, but a moment later she whispered joyfully: – “Did St. Nicholas really hear me? – “Yes, my star,” Svitlana whispered back conspiratorially, no longer holding back her tears of happiness. Ania’s warm palms wiped the tears from her goddaughter’s face until Svitlana beamed with a grateful smile. Her heart was filled with the happiness she had been waiting for. |
