“Please have a little patience and understanding.” A letter from an old mother to her children

My dear children!

I’m looking forward to tomorrow, because you’re coming to see me on my anniversary. I know that I am getting older. Every time I see your worried looks. But try to understand the stage of life that your parents are going through now.

🖋️ If your dad and I tell you the same stories again as we did a year ago, listen patiently without interrupting us with a phrase: “You’ve told us all this so many times!”. Please, just try to remember those moments of childhood when you asked me to read you the same book before bed.

🖋️ When you see me clumsily trying to understand modern technologies, just help me learn. And please don’t look at me with that look of failure. Give it time and remember how I patiently taught you everything new. First, I taught you how to dress and take care of yourself, and then I helped you solve difficult life situations.

🖋️ When you see that my old legs are not keeping up with you, just take my hand under your elbow and try to adjust the pace of your steps to mine. After all, I used to hold out my hands to you in the same way when you were still uncertain about standing on your own two feet and learning to take your first steps. And those were joyful moments!

🖋️ If I don’t want to take a bath the moment you say so, please don’t be angry. Remember those evenings when your dad and I used to persuade you to go for a bath and brush your teeth after a hard day. You didn’t really like that pressure, did you?

🖋️ If I sometimes lose the flow of our conversation or forget words, please give me some time to remember. Please don’t be nervous. Just know that the most important thing for me is time with you. You are always in my heart.

🖋️ Just find time to be with me. After all, I perceive time with you as a gift of life. Give me the opportunity to live it in a sense of love and awe.

With a grateful smile and boundless love for you, I end this letter.

And just a reminder: I am grateful to God for you. I love you, my children.”
