In search of a serious relationship. What is important from a psychological point of view?Meeting a person with whom you would like to create a future together is not just a lucky break. A successful acquaintance with a soul mate is the result of some work on yourself. Only understanding yourself allows you to build a healthy and harmonious relationship with another person. First of all, you need to realize your own values, determine what you expect from your partner and what you are ready to invest in the relationship. Love is not just chemistry and passionate emotions, it is the interaction of two individuals. The perfect partner for you will not appear in your life until you become a person who is really ready for a real relationship. The following important steps should be taken on this path: 1. Define yourself and what you want. Do you have a clear understanding of what kind of person you are, what you love and what you don’t? How you can and cannot be treated? What are your personal boundaries and principles? It is a mistake to believe that pretending to be someone you are not will make it easier to find a soul mate. Only a formed inner self will allow you to understand who really suits you and who does not. Understanding yourself gives you clarity on the question of what kind of person you are. A clear awareness of your “I” will allow you to determine whether you can have a future together at the first stages of dating, thereby protecting you from possible disappointments. 2. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. When you already have an understanding of who you are, don’t be afraid to show your individuality even when you first meet. After all, there is no point in disguising your “I”. Otherwise, how will people know what kind of person you are? Don’t hide behind unnecessary masks, and you will meet someone who will definitely appreciate you for who you really are. 3. Don’t get hung up on finding a partner. Don’t focus too much on the desire to find the perfect person for a serious relationship. Thinking that this is all you need to be happy, you stop seeing the world around you. And this mood feels more like despair. Realize that you are a self-sufficient person. Live in the here and now. Your happiness is inside you, not in the presence of someone next to you. Make your life richer and more interesting. As a result, you will behave more naturally and confidently on dates. 4. Optimism is good, but stay realistic. If you feel uncomfortable when you meet and communicate, you shouldn’t get your hopes up that things will improve. Make decisions about the development of your relationship based on what is happening in your heart right now. Belief in a better future with a particular person should have realistic grounds, not just optimistic expectations. 5. Don’t rush things. Do not rush to tell everything about your life, ask uncomfortable questions, and make plans for the future when you meet someone and start a relationship. Such moments only create a sense of tension and anxiety. Gradually get to know each other, creating space for the natural development of the relationship. Allow things to develop organically, without unnecessary pressure and excessive expectations. Sincere interest, ease of communication and mutual trust will lead to a deeper understanding of each other over time. Strong relationships are not built in a hurry, but on a harmonious combination of emotions, shared values, and mutual respect. 6. Your intentions should be clear. Build relationships consciously, with an understanding of what you really want. Answer yourself honestly to the question: “What do I want from this relationship?”. If you want a serious relationship, don’t settle for uncertainty in communication. Be honest about your intentions, but at the same time, don’t impose them on the other person. It is important that both partners have a common vision of the future. Being honest with yourself and others will help avoid misunderstandings and disappointments. 7. Listen to yourself, your feelings and intuition. At the beginning of a relationship, it is important to pay attention not only to your partner’s words and actions, but also to your own feelings. They are an internal compass that tells you whether you are moving in the right direction. Good signs are feelings of comfort, calmness, and joy around a person. If you feel tense and uncertain, don’t ignore it. Trust your intuition and answer the following questions: “Do I feel good with this person? Do we share similar life values? Do we have mutual respect?” Based on the materials of the project “Psychologists’ Space” |
