“What face do you have when you come home?”. A story of a good family tradition

By the end of the day, we all get tired. There’s no arguing with that. But let’s think about it: what face do we have when we come home from work? This expression on our face also forms a family tradition, unbeknownst to us. After all, you must admit that you can enter the house in different ways.

I remember when my father came home from work, my mother or grandmother would ask him: “How was work?”. He would almost always answer: “All jobs are good if you work with your heart!” And we would all smile. This is my favorite dialog from my childhood.

My father always managed to enter the house after a day’s work with a smile on his face. One of his principles was to leave all production problems outside the family home. I would like to cite one nice dialog with my father that sounded so often in my childhood and will remain in my memory forever.

When I was little, I always met my father with the same question: “Dad, what did you bring me?” If he didn’t bring me anything that day, my father always answered me the same way: “My love, my daughter!” And we would throw our arms around each other. If my father brought me something “tasty,” i.e. an edible treat, or “interesting,” i.e. a toy, book, or something else, we would always have the same dialog:

– Daddy, what did you bring me today?

– Something, my daughter!

– Something tasty or interesting?

– Today it’s delicious!

And my father would give me a small gift. I was overjoyed, but I kept my mouth shut just in case:

– Oh, how wonderful! Only I have nothing in return.

– And I don’t need anything. I only need your love!

– Well, that is always welcome!

After all the passwords and responses that were spoken and well known to the participants in the dialog, we both laughed and hugged each other joyfully. My father adhered to the principle: when entering your family home, say a friendly password, and then wait for its recall.
